We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo...
Our visit started in "Wild Africa" with a stop to feed the giraffes...
Yummy lettuce! The babies didn't come over to eat today, just the bigger ones.
I swear that giraffe was smiling at M and I know that she smiling right back!
Then we "hiked" the rest of the mile long trail to see the zebras, ostrich, red river hogs, one large tortoise, lots of birds and some cute mangabeys.
Remember when I told you how hot it was? Mmm hmm...sweaty!
Next, we made a stop at the carousel to ride...a giraffe, a horse, a cheetah and a peacock. I was riding...no pictures! But we did stop to take a picture with a BIG stuffed giraffe when we were done riding.
We saw the wolves, the wild dogs, the red panda, lemurs and then we stopped at the Z.O.&O. railroad station and took a quick train ride tour of the zoo. The tunnel was the best part of the ride but again...no pictures!
It was on to the children's petting zoo area next. Of course, we had to stop by the wooden giraffes for a quick photo op! It's really hard to get all four in the picture at once, let alone all looking in the same direction!
By this point we had almost had enough. We stopped at the reptile room to cool off! Guess what we saw in there? It's just the front of an elephant with a mural background, but it sure makes for a great picture! On the way out we saw another monkey and the bald eagles.
And of course no zoo visit is complete without taking a picture by the large red ant sculpture, right? It was too hot to sit on so we had to make do with standing near him.
Final stop? The gift shop, of course! We brought home a brown monkey, a black and white monkey, a sock monkey and a wolf.
So, did you notice the theme throughout our trip? It's hard to miss. Our 5-year-old has a SERIOUS obsession with giraffes. It is amazing how many you find at the zoo! She was one happy girl!
It was a great day!
Robin, so fun to read about your fun at the zoo! I used to sing the same song with my kids and it was always hot and sticky at the Houston Zoo (where we lived when my kids were little). Kudos to you for getting out there and having fun in spite of the heat.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the zoo, zoo, zoo! So glad you found enjoyment on one of the hottest days of summer!
