It's All About Perspective

It's March! It's March!

I'm so excited to get back to writing.  I haven't been very good about making time for it and I am feeling the need to get back into the rhythm of a writerly life.  The March Slice of Life Challenge is just the push I need to get back in the game!

I have been thinking about perspective today.

We had a great afternoon of PD at school today.  We read the book Last Stop On Market Street.  In our discussion of the book, we talked about the perspectives of the characters.  There is a young boy who sees a poor, dirty city block and his Nana points out the beauty in that same city block.  The boy was upset that his family didn't have a car and his Nana showed him the great things he could experience when riding a city bus.  It's all about perspective.

Later in the day, I spoke with my principal about a problem I was having with another staff member. I was trying to preserve our working relationship and my principal told me to stop worrying about it.  If that person wasn't going to do her job, we would find someone else who would.  He told me not to worry that she isn't happy with me...she made the mistake...she needs to get over it...I can't preserve a relationship by myself. My principal changed my perspective. He reminded me that this wasn't my doing and I couldn't undo it either.  It's all about perspective.

I was talking with a friend after school.  We both run small businesses on the side.  She was telling me how frustrating it is to build sales and watch the growth throughout the month only to see everything start over again at the start of the new month.  Rather than be unhappy that we start from zero each month and build, I told her we could look at it as a new beginning with new opportunities.  Every month is a new chance to be a rock star!  It's all about perspective.

And now there's a new month with a new writing challenge in front of me.  I can be scared and let that fear keep me from writing or I can look at it as a new opportunity to do something great for myself.  It's all about perspective.

  2. You're right--perspective plays such an important role in everything we do. I love how you used Last Stop on Market Street to help you reflect (fantastic book!) and I can tell you're planning to spend a great deal of time exploring your perspective throughout the March challenge!

  4. Perspective is hard to find in the most difficult moments. I love that a book changed your perspective to see things a little differently. The beauty of books, right? So happy you are "write" here again, Robin! Looking forward to the slices this month!

  5. It's easy for me to dwell on what is broken but yet so hard to see what's working. I admire how you are always so good at keeping a positive perspective. I am sure you will work through it unless it's me that you are referring. 😁

  6. Ah, the pesky perspective that forces us to reflect and think instead of react. One of the many things I love about you. :)
