Day 22 - I Miss Her

I have this friend,
she lives across the hall.
I see her everyday,
we talk once in a while.
She's a good friend,
she knows me well.
I know some secrets,
and she knows mine.
There isn't enough time,
to talk enough.
I have this friend,
she lives across the hall.
I miss her.

I have this friend,
she lives across 3 states.
I rarely see her,
we talk once in a while.
She's a good friend,
she knows me well.
Marriage, moves, & 8 kids,
come between us now.
There isn't enough time,
to talk enough.
I have this friend,
she lives across three states.
I miss her.

I have this friend,
she lives down the street.
I don't see her enough,
we talk once in a while.
She's known me forever,
she knows me well.
She's changed,
and so have I.
There isn't enough time,
to talk enough.
I have this friend,
she lives down the street.
I miss her.

I've had this poem rattling around in me for several days.  I knew it needed to be written for all sorts of reasons, many of which I will never give voice to, but I was a little afraid of parts.  It's one thing to be honest, it's another to wear your heart on your sleeve.  I wasn't sure what would come out when I put my fingers on the keyboard but I knew whatever it was needed to be said.  It was persistent.

  1. OMG....I could write a few stanzas to add to this poem....there is not enough time resonates throughout...and I am reminded of my own mom who talked and talked and talked as she scrubbed the kitchen floor every day...that is how SHE found time...yet we can't find those minutes because we are always busy....sigh....

  2. Thank you for writing this and sharing it! It's hard to share writing when it makes us vulnerable and I admire you for doing just that!! This poem is amazing! It makes me think. I've read it three times already... I have questions and I wonder...and that's what I love about good poetry! Well done! :)

  3. Sometimes those the closest to us, disappear the quickest. Keep contacting, you can never have too many friends. I loved the repetition in this poem.

  4. I loved how you weaved in the same line "I have this friend" It really brings home how for one reason or other people sometimes just grow apart and you don't want it to happen but it just does. Then you say "let's get together" and it never happens. Sad...
