Day 7 - You Are Never Far Away
Today is my dad's birthday. He would be 71 if he were still here with us. It's hard to believe he's been gone for 8 years but today, like every day, I know he isn't far away. Happy birthday Dad!
I know you are here each day
even though I can't hear your voice
you are never far away
I see your hands
when I look at mine
It's you who made
my eyes blue
I see you in my children's smiles
your laugh echoes in their giggles
no red hair to carry on
but determination is abundant
I can do anything
you often said
and this I know is true
more now than before
I wish my kids could learn from you
they've surely missed out
but they see your pictures
and hear of you in stories
We know you are here each day
even though we can't hear your voice
you are never far away

Beautiful poem. I love the way we can see our parents a little bit in our children's faces. It's pretty special.
ReplyDeleteThe sweetest tribute, Robin. I love the 'you are never far away'. So happy to hear you are sharing your dad with your kids. The stories are never far away either.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part is that you know more than ever now that you can do anything. And your dad gave you that. What a lovely tribute.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful poem about your dad! I'll bet your kids feel as if they know him when you share the stories about him. It seems like no matter how long a loved one has been gone these milestones are never easy! Happy Birthday to your Dad! I am sure he was a great man!
