Bittersweet, My Little Birds

Some thoughts on the last day of school...

Last day
images flood my mind
as I gaze around the empty room
remembering laughter
and frustration
hopefulness and love
20 little bouncing bodies
yearning for more knowledge

Through ups and downs
bumps and bruises
we found out way to smmer

I'll miss you my friends
your smiles
and hugs
your giggles

You will always be apart of me
My heart will smile
as I watch you take wing
and fly

Have a wonderful summer
my little birds

  1. Love it all, but especially "found our way to summer"-it is such a journey isn't it? And that ending, "my little birds", is just beautiful. I wrote a goodbye poem that talks of keeping a feather-similar metaphor, Robin. Happy end of the year!

  2. Your students are lucky to have you for their teacher. Like Linda, I appreciated the final line. Enjoy summer. Can't wait to see you next week!

  3. And your little birds will fly high. My little bird will never forget her kindergarten teacher and all that you did for her each day.
